RHM 469: Internship in Hospitality Management

Fall & Spring

Course Description: A semester of work experience in an approved hospitality organization for a minimum of 500 hours. Students work full-time during the semester to gain insight into hospitality management responsibilities.

All RHM students are required to complete RHM 469 (500 worked or volunteer hours) before graduation. These hours can be paid work experience, volunteer hours or a combination for a total of 500 hours. The 500 hours must be completed during their college years. Up to 350 hours can be from past work experience with approved documentation and the last 150 hours must be current work experience and completed the semester you take the course. It is mandatory for students to include proof of work hours and final evaluation to pass the class.

Grading Policy: Students enrolled in RHM 469 will be expected to complete all work experience hours and submit their Internship Portfolio for grading by the due date indicated on the course schedule (typically the Friday of Dead Week). Should a student show timely progression of their practicum experience but ultimately fail to meet the completion deadline, an incomplete “I” may be assigned at the discretion of the Instructor to allow for a brief time extension. Failure to evidence timely progression will result in an assignment of "F" with no opportunity for extension. Students receiving an incomplete will have no more than 1 additional semester to complete the necessary coursework and submit their Internship Portfolio. Failure to do so will result in the student receiving an "F" for the course.
